Women’s Tennis Wins RPI Invitational
TROY, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women’s tennis team captured the Rensselaer Invitational last weekend (Aug. 31 – Sept. 1) at Prospect Park in Troy, NY. The Hawks, who finished third at the 2001 event, won the first and fifth singles on day-one of the tournament and then claimed the first and second doubles flights the next day to finish with four points. Nazareth was second with three points followed by host Rensselaer, who was third with two points. Plattsburgh St. and Russell Sage tied for fourth and did not score.
Freshman Sophie Giret (Paris, France – Celsa Paris IV Sorbonne) and Junior Amie Larson (Port Jervis, NY – Port Jervis HS) each went 4-0 from the first and fifth singles positions.
In the doubles competition, sophomore Kerry Farrell (Rockville Center, NY – South Shore HS) and senior Rebecca Sparacin (Goshen, NY – Goshen HS) went 3-1 from the top position in the lineup. Senior captain Megan Crevoiserat (Levittown, NY – Division Avenue HS) and Giret teamed up to go 3-1 from the second doubles position.
The SUNY New Paltz women’s tennis team begins the dual meet portion of its schedule on Sept. 5 at Oneonta at 4:00 p.m.
