Women’s Lacrosse Splits With Wells, Oneonta

AURORA/ONEONTA, NY — The New Paltz women’s lacrosse team defeated Wells College 12-7 Friday and lost to Oneonta Saturday 18-0. This weekend’s results give the Hawks a 2-7 season record and a 1-5 record in the SUNYAC conference.

On Friday, the Hawks beat Wells College 12-7. Megan Porter (Massapequa, NY) led the charge for New Paltz scoring four goals in the game. Senior Katie Sharp (Mineola, NY) moved to the brink of eclipsing the 100-point barrier with three goals and two assists on the day. Sharp now sits at 99 career points and will look to break the barrier Friday against Buffalo State. Jackie Bunzel (Massapequa, NY) added two goals, and Mary Warren (Mineola, NY), Kate Roussel (Staten Island, NY), and Jillian Sheppard (Stony Brook, NY) added one each. Goalkeeper Adrian Grasso (Oceanside, NY) made 18 saves in the game.

Saturday was a long afternoon for the Hawks as the Red Dragons of Oneonta shut down the New Paltz offense and went on to an 18-0 win. Adrian Grasso made 13 saves between the pipes.

New Paltz will next play Friday and Saturday against Buffalo State and Fredonia.
