Softball Drops SUNYAC Games Over Weekend

NEW PALTZ — New Paltz women’s softball was defeated twice Friday against Geneseo 9-0 and 12-0, and twice Saturday against Brockport 8-2 and 4-1. The losses give the Hawks a 1-16 overall record and an 0-6 mark in the conference.

Friday, the Knights of Geneseo shut down the New Paltz offense, limiting the Hawks to just three hits in two games. In game one, Jen Varrone (New Paltz, NY) pitched the entire game, giving up seven hits on six earned runs in five innings of work. Jessica Schropfer (Glen Oaks, NY), Jen Born (Walroth, NY), and Varrone had the only hits for the Hawks. In game two, New Paltz was no-hit by Geneseo pitching and the Knights got nine runs in the second inning and coasted to a 12-0 win. Wendy Del Orbe (Bronx, NY) took the loss for the Hawks, pitching 1 and 1/3 innings giving up ten runs (seven unearned) on four hits.

Saturday, the Hawks were a little livelier at the plate against Brockport as they rapped out ten hits in the twin bill. Val Blackman (Castle Creek, NY) had two hits in game one, and Jessica Schropfer (Glen Oaks, NY) had two in the second game to lead New Paltz. The Eagles proved to be more efficient at the plate though, and knocked in eight runs in the first game and four in the second in the two wins. Kristin Ackerman (Middletown, NY) pitched in game one, giving up eleven runs on eight hits, and Varrone pitched the second game, surrendering four runs on seven hits for the Hawks.

New Paltz will head into battle again Tuesday against Castleton at 3:00pm.
