New Paltz Baseball Returns From the South

FT. PIERCE, FL — The Hawks returned from their annual Florida trip with a disappointing 2-6 record. Although the men fell short of their goal of five wins, they returned with several bright spots.

The team’s first win came against the University of Sciences, a Division II program. Rich Bizelia (Massapequa, NY) pitched extremely well in his complete game effort for the Hawks.

The Hawks’ second win came on the last day of the trip against Williams College, the fifteenth ranked Division III team in the country. The Hawks broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring five runs sealing the game for winning pitcher Eric Kantner (New Hampton, NY). Kantner, in his second win of the season, scattered five hits in the 7-1 win.

Head coach Mike Juhl was upbeat despite losing six of the eight games played in Florida. “We ended the trip beating a very good team,” he said. “This was the first game that we played solid baseball for all seven innings.”

Players Mike Bucco (Washingtonville, NY), Ernesto Sosa (Santa Domingo, DR), Vinnie Perry (Kingston, NY), John Buonamano (Royersford, PA), Paul Schropfer (Glen Oaks, NY) and Randy Walters (Collierville, TN) were all praised for their offensive efforts in the game, swinging the bat well the entire game.
