Men’s Volleyball Goes 3-1 in Buffalo

BUFFALO, NY — The New Paltz men’s volleyball squad defeated D’Youville, Clarke and Medaille this weekend to even up its record at 14-14.

On Friday, the Hawks rolled past D’Youville in three straight games 30-24, 30-22, 30-26. Steve Bristow (Richmond, VA) paced New Paltz with 12 kills, 6 digs and 5 blocks. Jim Cramer (New Oxford, PA) added 22 assists in the match.

Saturday saw the Hawks take on the #6 and #7 ranked teams in Division III. Against Clarke, the Hawks and Crusaders traded 30-27 wins in games one and two before New Paltz took games three and four 30-22 and 30-28. Beau Warren (Canandaigua, NY) had a triple double in the match with 13 kills, 18 assists, and 10 digs. Michael La Rocco (Hauppauge, NY) led the Hawks in kills with 15 while Cramer had 27 assists. In the second match of the day against UC Santa Cruz, New Paltz bolted out to a two-game lead winning games one and two 30-24 and 30-23. The Banana Slugs were not to be denied though, as they took the final three games 30-22, 30-27, and 15-12. Warren had his second triple double of the day finishing with 15 kills, 16 assists, and 10 blocks. La Rocco added a double double with 15 kills and 11 digs and Cramer had 36 assists.

On Sunday, New Paltz closed out its Buffalo outing with a 3- 1 victory over Medaille 30-24, 30-26, 20-30, 30-27. Beau Warren missed his third triple double in a row by one dig as he finished the match with 11 kills, 10 assists, and 9 digs.

New Paltz will next take on Vassar on Tuesday in Poughkeepsie at 7:00. The Brewers currently sit at 15-3 on the season and are ranked 5th in Division III. The Hawks are looking to avenge an earlier 3-1 loss to Vassar in the opening game of the season.
