Amoia Caps Season At NCAAs

MIAMI, OH — New Paltz swimmer Jon Amoia finished off an amazing junior season this past weekend at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships in Ohio. The Williamsville, NY native placed 22nd in the 100-yard breaststroke on Friday with a time of 58.79 and came away with a 30th-place finish in the 200- yard breaststroke in 2:11.48 on Saturday. Amoia also qualified for the 50-yard freestyle in which he finished 48th.

In addition to this weekend’s accomplishments, Amoia also boasts stellar performances at this year’s Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships and State University of New York Athletic Conference Championships.

At the ECAC competition, swimming against only Division I and II athletes, Amoia was able to place 16th in the 100- yard breaststroke and 26th in the 200-breastroke.

At SUNYACs, Amoia captured the 200-medley relay title with teammates Kent Yeung, Jeff Galaise, and Mark Otto. Amoia followed the effort capturing the 100-yard breaststroke championship shattering school and meet records with a time of 57.98. As a result of his finishes, Amoia was voted the Most Outstanding Male Swimmer at the meet.
