Piano Trio Innisfree Performs Work From Upcoming CD Release

NEW PALTZ — On Tuesday, February 5, at 8:00 PM, the Department of Music at SUNY New Paltz welcomes the musical trio Innisfree to the stage of the Julien J. Studley Theatre. Tickets to the concert are available for purchase at the theatre at 7:00 PM.

In keeping with Innisfree’s mission to include 20th or 21st century composer in every program, the upcoming concert features a recent work by Henry Martin. The new composition, Piano Trio in C# minor, is both lyrical and dynamic. Innisfree is currently at work on a compact disc of Martin’s works for piano and strings, of which the piano trio is a centerpiece. The group’s program at SUNY New Paltz also includes Schubert’s glorious Trio in Eb Major, Op. 100.

The euphonious name Innisfree was chosen for its inspiring literary origin; it also has a regional association with the lovely landscaped park in Millbrook, New York. The sentiment expressed in Yeats’ poem “Lake Isle of Innisfree” evokes the peace and centeredness.

Innisfree comprises Carole Cowan, violin; Susan Seligman, cello; and Sylvia Buccelli, piano-three of the premier musicians in the Hudson Valley. All three are highly acclaimed chamber players familiar to audiences throughout the region. Carole Cowan has been concertmaster of the Hudson Valley Philharmonic since 1978 and is first violinist of the HVP String Quartet. Dr. Cowan has performed throughout the U.S. in numerous string quartets, ensembles and orchestras. Susan Seligman, principal cellist with the Hudson Valley Philharmonic, has performed at international music festivals in Brazil, France, Italy, and Switzerland and teaches locally at SUNY New Paltz and Vassar College, Poughkeepsie, New York. Pianist Sylvia Buccelli is a founding member of the Franconia Trio and Abbot Chamber Players. She has performed at Weil Recital Hall in New York and extensively throughout New England. Together, the ensemble has performed concerts throughout the northeast since their inception in 1994.
