Men’s Basketball Loses Close Games to York, Baruch

NEW PALTZ — The men’s basketball team suffered two losses this weekend but made huge second half comebacks to bring both games down to the wire.

On Friday night, the Hawks found themselves down by double digits in the second half but stormed back in the closing minutes to cut the lead to four. Unfortunately they could get no closer. York sealed the game with late free throws winning 68-62. Ben Davey (Andover, NJ) paced New Paltz with 17 points while Pat Stirk (Milford, CT) had 14 and Danny Goldberg (New Rochelle, NY) had 10.

Saturday saw the Hawks fall behind by seventeen points to the visiting team from Baruch at the end of the first half. But tighter defense and horrific second half shooting by Baruch got the Hawks right back into the game. New Paltz outscored their opponents 31-16 in the second half and nearly sent the game into overtime but Ben Davey’s driving layup wouldn’t fall as time expired. Davey finished the game with 19 points and Stirk added 15 points and pulled down 13 rebounds.

Men’s basketball is on the road Tuesday at Oneonta before playing again at home against Potsdam at 4:00 pm.
