Women’s Soccer Defeats Utica/Rome
NEW PALTZ — Freshman Forward Lauren Martone (Hastings, NY) scored twice Wednesday and Senior Kate Sharp (Mineola, NY) had a goal and an assist to lead the Hawks to a 3-2 win over Utica/Rome. The win improves their record in the conference to 3-6 and their overall record to 6-9.
Utica/Rome took the lead four minutes into the second half on a goal from Joyann Bartholomen. Martone countered at the 25:45 mark with Sharp picking up the assist. Sharp would get one of her own six minutes later from Freshman Kristen Fengler (North Babylon, NY). Martone got her second less than three minutes later at the 16:28 mark with Meredith Ventimiglia (Patchogue, NY) getting the assist. Utica/Rome got an unassisted goal with less than eleven minutes left in the match but were unable to get any closer. New Paltz outshot the Wildcats 17-4 and Maggie Fenton (East Meadow, NY) made 1 save in goal for the Hawks.
New Paltz returns to action Sunday when they travel to Russell Sage.
