Utica College Edges Women’s Field Hockey
UTICA — Utica’s Dawn VanWieren scored the game-winning goal on a penalty corner as time expired on Thursday as the Pioneers defeated New Paltz by a score of 3-2. The loss drops the Hawks’ record to 1-7 on the season.
Utica took a 1-0 lead eleven minutes into the first half when Erica Hajeris scored off an assist from Karyn Connors. Kelly Anderson (Kingston, NY) tied the score five minutes into the second half from Carey Stelmack (Owego, NY) at the 30:14 mark. With just 5:30 left in the match, Utica’s Nicole Marsh put the Pioneers up again 2-1. The Hawks answered quickly as Jodi Novatka (Southampton, NY) fed Allison Taub (Greenlawn, NY) for the tying score. New Paltz was unable to hang on though giving up the game-winning goal with no time left.
The Hawks return to action Saturday at 12:00 at Dietz Stadium in Kingston against Oswego.
