BUFFALO — The New Paltz Women’s Soccer Team came out firing against Buffalo State scoring twice in the first fourteen minutes and went on to defeat the Bengals 3-1. The Hawks improve their overall record to 3-7 and their conference record to 1-4.
Freshman forward Lauren Martone (Hastings, NY) scored both of the early first half goals for the Hawks. Therese Nordlund (Lulea, Sweden) assisted Martone on her first tally and Kayla Sutton (St. Johnsville, NY) picked up the assist on the second. Buffalo State cut the deficit to one with less than eighteen minutes to go in the game on a goal from Lucy Bauda. The Hawks sealed it though with less than three minutes to play when Nordlund found the net on a pass from Michele Branca (Holbrook, NY). The Hawks held the advantage in shots for the game 14-10 and goalkeeper Maggie Fenton (East Meadow, NY) made three saves in the victory.
New Paltz takes on Fredonia Saturday at 1:00.
