Men’s Soccer Pulls Away From Buffalo State
NEW PALTZ — After a tie score at halftime, the New Paltz Men’s Soccer Team erupted for three second-half goals to defeat Buffalo State 5-2. The win improves the Hawks’ record in the conference to 2-3 and their overall record to 3-4.
Buffalo struck first in the opening half when Dusty Hinman chipped the ball up and over goalkeeper Kevin Smith (Niskayuna, NY) at the 33:03 mark. Less than a minute later, John D’Eredita (Lagrange, NY) tied it at one on a goal from twelve yards out. The Bengals made it 2-1 with 13:48 left in the half when David Aselin blasted one over Smith from eighteen yards out. Guido Tiberia (Manhasset, NY) though volleyed the ball home with five minutes left in the half off a service from Chris Daly (Washingtonville, NY). The Hawks got two insurance goals from Mario Lavacca (Port Washington, NY) early in the second half at 41:37 and 38:12 for a 4-2 lead. The second goal coming off a nice feed in front from D’Eredita. Freshman Matt Daum (New Paltz, NY) rounded out the scoring 3:41 from the end of the match with Olu Osinowo (Bronx, NY) picking up the assist.
New Paltz returns to action Saturday when they host Fredonia at 1:00.
