NEW PALTZ — The SUNY New Paltz Advancement Division recently announced two new members of its development team: Lucia Mallardi, as the new annual giving coordinator, and Eileen Bastien as a development associate.
The annual giving coordinator at SUNY New Paltz is responsible for overseeing the attraction of annual gifts from alumni, parents and friends of the university, while the development associate is responsible for fundraising, stewardship and prospect research.
Mallardi, a 1996 graduate of the university with a bachelor’s degree in organizational communication, returns to New Paltz from the Culinary Institute of America, where she has been serving as the annual campaign assistant since 1999. Prior to that, Mallardi, whose educational course work included advertising, public relations, and electronic media writing & promotion, was employed by CELLULARONE of the Hudson valley & Catskill region, where she served as a corporate account executive and a customer care specialist.
“I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to return to SUNY New Paltz as a new member of its advancement team,” Mallardi said. “As an alumna, it has been an extremely welcoming experience, and I look forward to working with the SUNY New Paltz Foundation, faculty, staff, students, alumni, parents and friends.”
A New Paltz native, Mallardi grew up speaking both English and Italian, her father’s native tongue. She travels to Italy annually to visit with family.
Bastien, a Cornwall resident, has been working as a development assistant with St. Joseph’s Seminary in Yonkers since 1997, and was an admissions/financial aid associate at the General Theological Seminary in New York before that. She holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing from St. John’s University and studied nursing at Hunter College. Bastien is fluent in Spanish and speaks Creole French as well.
“I am delighted and eager to become part of the university community at New Paltz,” she said. “I look forward to working with the faculty and staff and diverse community of students. It will be an exciting adventure.”
Millardi arrived on campus in April and Bastien begins work May 22.
Bastien replaces Karen Chaffee as development associate. Chaffee remains with the university as an adjunct in the English Department and is now the director of business projects with the School of Business.
