Hawks Weekend Recap

NEW PALTZ — With the first beautiful weekend of the spring season, all five spring sports were in action.

The men and women’s track and field team posted second and third place finishes at the Hartwick Invitational. For the men, Dale Eberhardt finished first in the 100 and 400 meter Hurdles. Justin Lee finished second in the Steeple Chase where it was his first time ever participating in the event. The men’s 4×400 team also finished in first place.

For the women, Heidi Dippel and Kate Dwyer finished one and two in the High Jump, while Andrea Drayss placed first in the Shot Put and Pam Abbene cleared a SUNYAC best of 9ft in the Pole Vault.

Women’s lacrosse had its first win of the season by defeating Buffalo State 11-6 in Buffalo. Megan Porter and Caurie Waddell each scored four goals, while Katie Sharp added three goals for the Hawks. In Saturday’s game, New Paltz drops to Fredonia 17-7. The Hawks are now 1-5 SUNYAC and 1-10 overall.

In softball, New Paltz drops both double-headers to Oswego and Cortland Friday and Saturday at Deane Field. On Friday, the Hawks could not generate any offense, thereby bowing out to Oswego 1-0 and 9-3. In the first game, Jen Varrone went the distance giving up one run and scattering eight hits for New Paltz.

On Saturday, the Hawks faced powerhouse Cortland. New Paltz was defeated 19-3 and 17-0. The Hawks are now 1-17 SUNYAC and 1-28 overall.

For baseball, New Paltz is on a five game win streak posting wins over Oneonta (2), Marywood, and Scranton (2). The Hawks are now 5-3 SUNYAC and 13-12-1 overall.
