New Paltz Eliminated In SUNYAC Men’s Basketball
CORTLAND — Three players scored in double figures, but a 12-point halftime deficit proved too much to overcome for SUNY New Paltz in Tuesday’s 77-56 men’s basketball elimination loss at SUNYAC leader Cortland.
New Paltz (6-16 overall, 5-13 SUNYAC) could not stop last year’s SUNYAC Player of the Year, Tom Williams, who exploded for 29 points, eight rebounds and three steals, to almost single-handedly end the Hawks’ already slim playoff hopes.
Dave Ott had 13 points to lead New Paltz, which got 10 points apiece from Ben Davey and Pat Stirk, and nine points and seven rebounds from Robert Jones.
The Hawks will close their 2000-01 season this weekend at home against Potsdam (Friday at 8 p.m.) and Plattsburgh (Saturday at 4 p.m.).
