Amoia Sets School Record At ECAC Meet

SEWELL, NJ — SUNY New Paltz sophomore Jon Amoia set a school record time of 59.64 in the 100-yard Breaststroke to place 13th at the ECAC Open Swimming and Diving Championships on Friday night at Gloucester Institute of Technology.

Amoia, the reigning ECAC Division III champion in that event, broke his own Hawk record, and finished behind only higher division swimmers. It was also 10 tenths of a second faster than his second-place swim of 59.74 at last month’s SUNYAC Swimming and Diving Championships in Buffalo.

The three-day meet, in which the East coast’s top Division I, II and III swimmers and divers have an opportunity to compete directly against each other, began on Thursday and will conclude tomorrow.

Amoia, a Williamsville, NY native, is seeded 25th entering tomorrow morning’s 200-yard Breaststroke preliminaries. The top 16 finishers qualify for the evening session finals.

Amoia is a business major and a 1999 graduate of Williamsville South High School. -30-
