Men’s Volleyball Team Starts With Loss

BUFFALO — SUNY New Paltz opened its men’s volleyball season with a four-game loss to Tri-State University on Saturday at the D’Youville College Invitational.

The (2-1) Thunder, a NAIA II school from Indiana, defeated New Paltz, 30-20, 26-30, 30-21, 37-35, for its second straight victory of the young season.

Christopher Wright had 22 kills, three solo blocks and three service aces to lead New Paltz. Other contributors for the Hawks included Sean Riley (12 kills, two service aces), Jason Bateman (21 digs, eight kills, two service aces) and Robert Manosca (47 assists).

New Paltz (0-1) will continue tournament play tomorrow.
