Hawks Defeat Farmingdale In Women’s Basketball
NEW PALTZ — SUNY New Paltz outscored Farmingdale 51-23 in the second half to extend a 10-point halftime advantage to a 38-point final margin, for a 82-44 non-conference women’s basketball win on Wednesday night at Elting Gymnasium.
Silver Williams scored a game-high 21 points and had 17 rebounds to lead New Paltz (7-6) past the Rams in the two schools’ first-ever meeting. Zebi Williams (18 points, 12 rebounds, three blocks) and Lisa Burriss (17 points, eight rebounds, four steals) also reached double figures for the Hawks, while Jeanne Purnell (16 points, seven steals) was the only Farmingdale (7-8) player with more than seven points.
In addition, New Paltz dominated the boards, outrebounding the Rams, 56-41, and collected 19 steals. Former Hawk men’s player Chris Mooney (1995-97) is in his first season as Farmingdale’s head coach.
New Paltz returns to SUNYAC action this weekend with a 6 p.m. game on Saturday at Oswego.
