New Paltz Edged By Elmira In Men’s Soccer

NEW PALTZ — Two first half goals stood up as Elmira defeated SUNY New Paltz in men’s soccer, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon.

Bob Roach tallied the game winner for the (7-4) Soaring Eagles 24:01 into the contest, and teammate Mike Petzing added Elmira’s other goal just 52 seconds later.

Losing goalkeeper Kevin Smith (four saves) combined with freshman Michael Vaughan-Cherubin (three saves) to collect seven saves in the contest.

New Paltz (3-12) hosts Utica/Rome on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
