Field Hockey Edged By Elmira

ELMIRA — Carey Stelmack put New Paltz ahead with 9:12 remaining in the first half, but Elmira then scored two unanswered goals, en route to a 2-1 win in field hockey on Saturday afternoon.

All the scoring occurred in the first half. Jamie Ring tied the score with 8:10 left, and Beth Beaulieu provided the game-winner for the (4-10) Soaring Eagles, who are also in their first varsity campaign, just over a minute later.

Liz Clarke (26 saves), meanwhile, had another stellar performance in goal for New Paltz, which is now 1-12.

The Hawks return to action with a match at Misericordia at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
