Smith Hurt As Hawks Fall On Road
EWING, NJ — All-SUNYAC goalkeeper Kevin Smith made 12 saves on Tuesday night before leaving the game with an apparent concussion after being struck in the face with the ball, as SUNY New Paltz fell to 0-3 in men’s soccer with a 5-0 loss to The College of New Jersey.
Smith, a sophomore, was injured with 20 minutes remaining in the contest. As is standard procedure, he was taken to a nearby hospital for a full precautionary examination.
Meanwhile, Lou Scerbo helped brake open what was a scoreless game at halftime with three second-half goals and an assist. New Jersey netminders Ryan Hayward and John Titus combined to stop three Hawk shots to record the (3-0) Lions’ third straight shutout.
New Paltz is at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts Fall Classic this weekend, taking on perennial NCAA soccer powerhouse Rowan on Saturday and third-year program Lasell on Sunday. Games both days are at 1 p.m.
