Men’s Soccer Team Falls Short In OT
ERIE, PA. — Hunter Brown’s goal two minutes into the first overtime period kept SUNY New Paltz winless in men’s soccer on Saturday at the Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament hosted by Penn State Behrend.
New Paltz lost 3-2 to Hobart College in the tournament’s third-place game.
Freshman Mario Lavacca got the (0-2) Hawks on the board in the 15th minute, and New Paltz maintained the 1-0 advantage until David Leahy tied the score three minutes before halftime.
Arash Ghoja put the (1-1) Statesmen ahead with a goal in the 47th minute, but New Paltz’s Kyle Nielsen answered with 17 minutes left in regulation to force overtime.
Hawk goalkeeper Kevin Smith made eight saves to again keep New Paltz in striking distance.
