Field Hockey Falls To Brockport

KINGSTON — Candy Smith’s goal 8:41 into the contest proved to be the game-winner, as SUNY Brockport earned its first win of the season, 4-0, over winless SUNY New Paltz on Saturday afternoon at Kingston’s Dietz Stadium.

Melissa Young and Jill Gmerek also scored for the (1-4 overall, 1-1 SUNYAC) Golden Eagles, who edged New Paltz (0-5 overall, 0-2 SUNYAC) on shots, 10-8. Meanwhile, the Hawks held a 9-3 advantage on penalty corners, but were unable to convert any of those chances.

Both goalkeepers – Liz Clarke for New Paltz and Brittany Phillips for Brockport – made seven saves to keep their respective teams close.

New Paltz hosts Oneonta on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Dietz.
