Women’s Lacrosse Edged By Fredonia

KINGSTON — Katie Sharp scored twice in the first 15 minutes on Saturday, but New Paltz allowed six unanswered goals, en route to a 7-4 loss to Fredonia in SUNYAC women’s lacrosse at Kingston’s Dietz Stadium. Sharp, who also had an assist on New Paltz’s final goal with 1:41 remaining, and Wallkill product Erin Scherf (two goals) accounted for the Hawk offense. Melissa Butterweich followed up yesterday’s two-goal effort with an assist on Sharp’s second tally with 15:11 left in the first half.

Meanwhile, Kelly Domm collected three goals to lead Fredonia, and Nicole Ferrauilo and Katie powers each added two goals.

Adrian Grasso made six saves in net for New Paltz (1-11 overall, 1-7 SUNYAC) while counterpart Kim Papia had eight saves for the (3-10 overall, 3-5 SUNYAC) Blue Devils.

New Paltz hosts Centenary (NJ) at 4 p.m. on Tuesday at Dietz Stadium for its final home match of the season.
