Men’s Tennis Blanked By Rensselaer

TROY — SUNY New Paltz was unable to win a set against perennial regional power Rensselaer on Wednesday, losing to the Red Hawks, 7-0, in men’s tennis at Troy’s Sharp Courts. The match utilized the men’s tennis scoring system that awards one point for each singles win and one point to the team winning the best 2-of-3 doubles matches. The Hawks’ Chris Knoblauch had the day’s closest match at fourth singles, losing 6-4, 7-5 to Rensselaer’s Jeff Coppelman. Tiberiu Taran had the next closest match at first singles, extending Steve Matthews to five games (6-4, 6-1). New Paltz (3-4) returns home to host Hunter on Friday at 3:30 p.m., before traveling to Montclair State for a 1 p.m. match on Saturday.
