Buonamano Pitches New Paltz To First Win

FT. PIERCE, FLA. — Sophomore transfer John Buonamano pitched a complete-game six-hitter and struck out 12 batters to help New Paltz record its first win of the season, 7-0 over Scranton, on Thursday afternoon in Fort Pierce, Fla.

Buonamano, who transferred to New Paltz from Division I Marist College, also homered in the Hawks’ first game of the day, an 8-5 loss to St. Mary’s (Md.) College.

New Paltz (1-3) scored in every inning except the sixth against the (3-3) Royals, with starting pitcher Ryan Neylan allowing all 10 Hawk hits and all seven of their runs.

Local product Mark Milroy (Staatsburg, NY/FDR) went 3-for-3 with a run scored, while second baseman Paul Schropfer was 2-of-3 with a run batted in, to lead the New Paltz offense against the (9-3) Seahawks.

In the earlier contest, Shawn Urban was 1-for-2 with a double and Shawn Francis (1-for-3) had a single, which with Buonamano’s homer, accounted for the Hawks three hits off the St. Mary’s pitching tandem of Dave Falcone and Ryan Moore. The Hawks resume their spring trip with a game against Geneva (Pa.) on Friday at 6 p.m. in Fort Pierce.
