Shields Becomes Leading Scorer
BROCKPORT — Robin Shields had 20 points in a 70-58 loss at Brockport to become SUNY New Paltz’s all-time leading women’s basketball scorer on Saturday afternoon.
Shields, a senior guard from Staten Island, made a pair of free throws with 3:41 remaining for the record. She now has 1,073 points with four games remaining in her stellar Hawk basketball career.
Jasmine Sanchez (1,066 points), whom Shields passed for the record, is the only other New Paltz woman to eclipse the 1,000-point barrier. Sanchez played at New Paltz from 1995-99, and was Shields’ teammate from 1996-99.
A 1996 graduate of New Dorp High School, Shields is ranked fifth in the SUNYAC in scoring (14.0 ppg) this season. Through 68 career SUNYAC games, Shields ranks sixth all-time in conference scoring (816 points), and is 16th in assists (167) and 18th in three-point percentage (.320).
She is a Communications major at New Paltz with a concentration in Radio and TV Management.
