Wright Nearing 1,000-Kill Plateau

NEW PALTZ — Middle hitter Christopher Wright is quickly approaching 1,000 career kills for the SUNY New Paltz men’s volleyball team.

Wright needs just 29 kills to reach the milestone in his junior season. He has 66 kills – an average of 3.1 kills per game – through the Hawks first six matches this season, including a season-high 21 kills last weekend against Division I St. Francis (Pa.).

New Paltz (2-4) plays at Sacred Heart 7 p.m. tonight and then returns home to host the University of Puerto Rico-Bayamon at 1 p.m. Saturday and Springfield College at 7 p.m. Monday.

A 1993 graduate of LaGuardia High School for the Arts in Manhattan, Wright now resides in New Paltz. He is an Interpersonal/Intercultural Communications major with a journalism minor and is also the president of the university’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Prior to his enrollment at New Paltz, Wright spent four years in the United States Navy, where in 1995 he was named to the All-Navy Volleyball team.
