Men’s Soccer Team Beats Cortland

NEW PALTZ — Orah Elohim’s header off Chris Knoblauch’s corner kick at the 48:18 mark was the game-winner, as New Paltz defeated Cortland, 2-1, in men’s soccer on Friday at the College’s Upper Soccer Field.

Elmer Velasquez also scored for the (2-10-2 overall, 2-4-1 SUNYAC) Hawks, who snap a three-game losing streak. Brian Thomas had Cortland’s goal on an assist from Justin Horton at 22:38.

Kevin Smith made two saves to preserve the win for New Paltz, while counterpart Tim Kelch stopped one shot for the (6-5-0 overall, 2-3-0 SUNYAC) Red Dragons, who are ranked ninth in the latest NSCAA/Adidas NCAA Division III Northeast Region Rankings.

New Paltz hosts Oswego tomorrow at 1 p.m.
