Goodwin, Yanek Lead Hawks at Cross-Country Meet
BRONX — Freshman Phillip Goodwin placed 19th in a field of 258 and junior Cheryl Yanek took 68th among 256 competitors to lead New Paltz’s men’s and women’s cross-country teams, respectively, at the New York University Invitational at Van Cortlandt Park on Saturday afternoon.
Goodwin finished the 8K course in 27:41, shaving 1:36 off his time two weeks ago at the St. Michaels (Vt.) Classic.
Yanek, meanwhile, completed the women’s race in 21:28, an improvement on her best time this season as well to help the ladies take 20th among 24 teams.
Other finishers for the men were Kevin Harrison (113th, 30:20) and Corey Crawford (173rd, 32:03). Other finishers for the women were Erica Peterson (124th, 22:40), Dawson Gerhardt (138th, 23:01), Alison Tracy (153rd, 23:14), Jennifer Schermerhorn (168th, 23:43) and Sara Dickinson (178th, 24:00).
New Paltz is at the Bard Invitational next Saturday.
