NEW PALTZ — The College at New Paltz Foundation, Inc. has appointed four new trustees to its board: Gladys Cooper, Karen B. Fein, Edward H. Northrop, and Howard Tsurushima.
The Foundation, created in 1976, is charged with the responsibility of attracting and administrating private support to fund programs and individual projects not provided by the state budget. The funds are used to enrich the quality of educational, cultural and service programs of the College and to improve the quality of student life on the campus.
Cooper is the assistant vice president of Governmental Relations at Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corporation in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. She recently received a Juris Doctor in law from the University of Maryland. Cooper has served on the boards of various organizations including Dutchess County chapters of the American Red Cross, YWCA, Community Action Agency, Girl Scouts of America, as well as the Catharine Street Community Center and the Dutchess Community College Foundation. She has also worked extensively with the Dutchess County United Way.
Fein is the director of professional services for Hudson Valley Home Care in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. She is a 1992 graduate of the nursing program at SUNY New Paltz and is currently a pre-doctoral student in nursing education at Teachers College, Columbia University. Fein serves on the Editorial Review Board for Home Healthcare Nurse, as editorial reviewer for the American Journal of Nursing, and also as the New York State Nursing Association district coordinator for Senator Stephen Saland.
Northrop is chairman of Xicom, Inc., a Tuxedo, New York-based management consulting and publishing firm. He holds a master’s degree from the Colgate-Darden School of Business Administration at the University of Virginia and is a 1966 graduate of Dartmouth College. Northrop is active in numerous community organizations including The Boys’ Club of New York where he serves as a trustee and president. He is also a director and vice chairman of the American Federation of Aging Research and chairman of the Hudson Valley Forum.
Tsurushima, president of Minolta Advance Technology, Inc. in Goshen, N.Y., was instrumental in setting up Minolta’s first manufacturing facility in North America. Before that he was manager of various departments in the Reprographic Group of Minolta Headquarters in Osaka, Japan. Tsurushima, a graduate of Kelo University in Tokyo, serves on the board of directors of the Orange County Partnership, is a member of the Advisory Council of Industry, Business, Education and Government at Orange County Community College, as well as the Business Advisory Board at the State University of New York at New Paltz.
