GE Board Update
Contributed by Anne Deutsch
The new General Education Program – GE4 – is up and running. After the faculty vote to pass GE4 in spring 2016, the General Education (GE) Board began working with units across campus to prepare for implementation. Our thanks to faculty and staff, Records & Registration, Undergraduate Admissions, Academic Advising, the Provost’s Office, Faculty Advisors, and many others who made this transition possible.
This year marks the implementation of the General Education Assessment Plan passed by Faculty Senate in Spring 2019. Content categories being assessed this year are Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Humanities, and Western Civilization. Working groups are being convened to draft questions/prompts and corresponding criteria for each of these areas. The assessments will be administered in capstone courses or equivalents during the spring semester.
The GE Board has been updating communications regarding General Education. A subcommittee, which has been working with Communication and Marketing, is looking forward to publishing a new website in the near future. In the meantime, visit https://www.newpaltz.edu/ge/ to review our work to date. Thanks to the Admissions and Academic Advising staff and Faculty Advisors for taking a more holistic and positive approach to discussing GE with students.
