Men’s Soccer Ends Season With Loss to Skidmore
NEW PALTZ — The Men’s Soccer Team closed out their season Tuesday with a 3-1 loss to Skidmore. The loss gives the Hawks a final season record of 7-11. The Thoroughbreds came into the game unbeaten in their last thirteen matches (12-0-1) and were ranked 6th in the region.
New Paltz Freshmen Matt Daum (New Paltz, NY) and Bryan Smith (Washingtonville, NY) connected for the Hawks’ goal less than twelve minutes into the game when Daum took a pass from Smith just inside the eighteen-yard box and slipped it into the net. Skidmore tied it with 15:01 left in the first half on a well-hit free kick from twenty yards out from Andrew Simon. Five minutes from the end of the first half, the Hawks were dealt a huge blow picking up a red card forcing them to play the entire rest of the match down a player. Skidmore capitalized twice in the first ten minutes of the second half, both by Simon, to go up 3-1. New Paltz continued to battle the rest of the half, even though they were shorthanded, but were unable to get another goal.
