“Art Uncorked” auction to benefit The Samuel Dorsky Art Museum at SUNY New Paltz
The Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art at SUNY New Paltz will host an evening of wine tastings and silent and live auctions on Wednesday, Oct. 8, from 6-9 p.m., at The Century Association, 7 West 43rd Street, New York City. Proceeds from the event will support The Dorsky Museum’s exhibitions, publications, and public programs.
The event’s honored guest will be Dick Polich, the founder of Polich Tallix Fine Art Foundry. Polich is the subject of an exhibition currently on display at The Dorsky Museum entitled Dick Polich: Transforming Metal into Art. Since the 1960s, hundreds of artists, including Isamu Noguchi, Nancy Graves, Roy Lichtenstein, and Martin Puryear, have worked with the metallurgist and foundry owner to realize their visions in bronze, aluminum, steel, and iron. Forward-looking and always willing to try something new, Polich has fostered artistic experimentation and innovation for the past half century.
Wine tastings are courtesy of Palmer Vineyards and silent and live auctions include wine from private cellars, modern and contemporary art, and enticing destinations, and unique experiences. The live auction will be conducted by Harmer Johnson, appraiser and auctioneer.
Fine art items to be auctioned off include: works on paper by Kiki Smith and Lesley Dill, and a sculpture by Ursula von Rydingsvard. The auction also includes a weeklong stay in the Swiss village of Soazza in the heart of Swiss-Italian merlot wine country in the guest quarters of a traditional “rustico” stone house dating to 1337. There will be wines for both the serious collector and the casual enthusiast.
All of the auction items can be seen on the “Art Uncorked” webpage on Bidding for Good: https://www.biddingforgood.com/auction/item/browse.action?auctionId=220891381.
Tickets are $150 per person; $175 after Oct. 5, 2014. For more information about “Art Uncorked” or to purchase tickets visit www.newpaltz.edu/museum/art_uncorked.html or call (845) 257-3844.
