Men’s Soccer Beats Utica/Rome
UTICA — Three freshmen scored as New Paltz beat Utica/Rome, 3-0, in their SUNYAC finale on Wednesday afternoon.
Elmer Velasquez, Jon Cherry and Kyle Nielsen had first-half goals to lead the (3-12-2 overall) Hawks, who finish 3-5-1 in SUNYAC play. Freshman goalkeeper Kevin Smith made two saves for his first collegiate shutout.
New Paltz has two games remaining this season. Saturday, the Hawks host Ithaca at 2 p.m., and then next Thursday they close the 1999 campaign with a 3 p.m. home match against local rival Vassar.
