SUNY New Paltz appoints new coordinator of veteran services
Jason F. Gilliland has been appointed the new coordinator of veteran services at the State University of New York at New Paltz.
In this role, Gilliland will support the coordination and development of a wide range of educational outreach, support, and referral services for SUNY New Paltz student veterans, service members, and their dependents.
Previously Gilliland worked for more than three years as the coordinator for veteran and military services at SUNY Buffalo State. He was responsible for recruiting, retaining, and advising student-veterans, and served as the College’s certifying official.
Gilliland started his career in the military in 1997. He served four years on active duty with deployments to Nicaragua and Kosovo. He then transferred to the Army Reserve and served for one year in Iraq. Upon his return, Gilliland transferred to the Air Force Reserve where he currently serves as an education and training specialist.
Gilliland earned a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice from SUNY Buffalo State in 2008. He will receive a Master of Science degree in higher education and student affairs administration from SUNY Buffalo State in 2016.
