Dwyer Earns ECAC Honor

NEW PALTZ — Katie Dwyer’s strong performance for the SUNY New Paltz Track and Field team last week has earned her the distinction of Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Field Athlete of the Week.

Dwyer, a freshman, finished first (5’1″) in one of her specialties, the high jump, this past Saturday at the Rensselaer Capital District Invitational, not far from her Delmar, NY home. Additionally, she placed third in the 200-meter dash (30.60) and sixth in the long jump (3.87 meters).

Last Thursday, at a tri-meet with SUNY Oswego at Hamilton College, Dwyer was third in the high jump (4’5¿”) and fourth in the 400-meter dash (1:09.47).

Dwyer is a participant in New Paltz’s innovative Inclusion Education program – a five-year bachelor’s/master’s of science program. This means that after graduation she will be eligible to be certified in New York State to teach both elementary (K-6) and special education. She is a 2000 Bethlehem Central High graduate.
