School of Business recognizes exemplary faculty and staff
NEW PALTZ – The School of Business at the State University of New York at New Paltz announces the 2013 recipients of its service, teaching, and research awards.
Dr. Vicki Hansen, Dr. Don Furman and Dr. Davina Vora will receive the Distinguished Service Award, Distinguished Teaching Award, and Distinguished Research Award, respectively. Danielle Tomczyk will receive the Distinguished Business Staff Service Award.
The awards recognize members of the school’s faculty and staff who demonstrated outstanding service, teaching, and research effectiveness.
The faculty and staff will receive their awards during the School of Business’s Award & Graduation Ceremony on May 3 in the Studley Theatre on campus, which will also include the Sigma Beta Delta honor society induction, presentation of student academic and service awards, and recognition of business students who are graduating.

“These great members of the School have gone above and beyond their duties to make significant difference in their profession, the quality of our educational programs and services, and the educational experiences of our students,” stated Hadi Salavitabar, dean of the School of Business.
Salavitabar commented that “Dr. Hansen is a committed professor who provides extensive service to the School, our students, and the accounting profession as a whole. She coordinates the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program on campus, in which students prepare tax returns for low income individuals at no cost.”
Furman brings his extensive experience in financial planning, income tax, accounting, and management to the classroom. “Dr. Furman is an outstanding professor who prepares students for the business world through practical applications, timely discussions, and by sharing his extensive business experience,” said Salavitabar.
Vora’s research has been published in various academic venues and has been cited in prestigious journals. Salavitabar said, “Dr. Vora is an exceptional and effective researcher with significant publications in the international business and organizational behavior fields.”
Tomczyk coordinates the Business Plan Contest, Investment Competition and Debate Competition, as well as the School’s Hall of Fame and Award & Graduation Ceremonies. “Ms. Tomczyk is a diligent and invaluable professional dedicated to enriching students’ educational experiences,” said Salavitabar.
The School of Business offers Bachelor of Science degrees in accounting, finance, general business, international business, marketing, and management, as well as a Master in Business Administration (MBA) and an MBA in public accountancy. SUNY New Paltz is an accredited member of AACSB International – the Association to Advance Collegiate School of Business, the highest achievement for an educational institution that awards business degrees. Currently, about 950 undergraduate and graduate students are enrolled in the business program.
