Alumni gift establishes new scholarship fund at New Paltz
NEW PALTZ – Dr. Steven Brody (’73) and Karen Krause Brody (’71, ’80g) have made a $25,000 gift to the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences of the State University of New York at New Paltz to create an endowed fund to assist students facing unexpected financial challenges, Dean James Schiffer announced today.
The gift will be used as “an emergency scholarship fund to support junior or senior students with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 majoring in a degree program in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences whose ability to continue at New Paltz is threatened by a sudden change in financial circumstances, such as parental job loss,” according to the endowment agreement.
“This is a wonderfully generous gift that will enhance educational opportunities for our students,” Schiffer said. “It is a particularly timely gift as it addresses a real-life need that arises more often than might be recognized.
