Dr. Steven Brody joins SUNY New Paltz’s Liberal Arts & Sciences Advisory Board
NEW PALTZ – The State University of New York at New Paltz welcomes Dr. Steven Brody (’73 Psychology) as its newest member of the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences (LA & S) Advisory Board. The board, formed a year ago, is composed of alumni and friends of New Paltz who will provide guidance and outside perspective about the college’s present and future academic programs and offerings.
Brody is an oral and maxillofacial surgeon in private practice in Greenwich, Conn. He is a graduate of the Medical College of Virginia (DDS ’77) and completed his residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the Hospital of St. Raphael, an affiliate of the Yale School of Medicine. Currently, Brody is an attending surgeon in the Department of Surgery at both Greenwich Hospital and New York-Presbyterian Hospital. He also serves as an assistant clinical professor at Columbia University, College of Dental Medicine.
Prior to his current position, Brody served as attending and chief of dentistry and oral and maxillofacial surgery at United New York Hospital and was a staff officer at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the U.S. Army Health Clinic at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and a fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
Brody’s wife, Karen (’71, ’80g Elementary Education, Art Education), is also active at New Paltz serving as the secretary of the SUNY New Paltz Foundation.

I am confident that the upward trajectory that has become a part of the culture of New Paltz will continue.”
James Schiffer, professor of English and dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, is pleased to welcome his newest board member. “I am delighted that Steven Brody, one of our most distinguished alumni, has agreed to join our advisory board. His desire to serve SUNY New Paltz is deeply appreciated, and we look forward to his strong advocacy for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences,” said Schiffer.
The purpose of the LA & S Advisory Board is to advocate for the value of liberal arts education that the college provides to New Paltz and the region; network with others for the betterment of the College and its students; and contribute to and assist in fundraising.
