SUNY New Paltz open and classes resume

NEW PALTZ – The State University of New York at New Paltz is open. All classes have resumed their normal schedule as of today Wednesday, August 31, 2011. Functionality was largely restored to the College after the effects of Hurricane Irene. For the latest information, please see our website, www.newpaltz.edu.

There has been incorrect information reported that New Paltz would not be open until September 6. New Paltz remained opened throughout Hurricane Irene but had limited technological resources. All students and staff who were on campus during this weather emergency are safe. Our back-up generators were operational and we sustained daily basic needs for our community. Classes were cancelled Monday and Tuesday and the basement of Haggerty Administration and Student Union Building remain closed. Many offices located in these buildings have been relocated temporarily with limited functionality to South Classroom Building.

New Paltz also functioned as a Red Cross shelter during the storm, housing local residents displaced by power outages, flooding and other weather related emergencies.
