“Spies are Forever” opens Feb. 14 at SUNY New Paltz

The Department of Theatre Arts will present a staged reading of “Spies Are Forever,” a musical about a secret agent working to thwart a Cold War-era revival of the Nazi regime, as the third installment of the 2024-25 Mainstage Production series.

Performances will be given Friday, Feb. 14 and Saturday, Feb. 15 at Parker Theatre on the SUNY New Paltz campus. The production is directed by current student Barclay Travis ’25 (Theatre Arts), with music direction by alumna Katie Gudzik ’22 (Theatre Arts).

The staged reading is free and open to the public.

“Spies Are Forever” is presented through special arrangement with Tin Can Bros.

About “Spies are Forever”

Written by Corey Lubowich, Joey Richter and Brian Rosenthal, “Spies Are Forever” follows the suave yet arrogant Agent Curt Mega after a tragedy forces him to reconsider the unstable world of espionage. But before long, Mega finds himself thrust into the shadows of Cold War politics, entangled with a Russian femme fatale and uncovering a supervillain’s plot to rebuild the Nazi empire. With a license to kill and the voice of an angel, Mega must stay alive, complete the mission and prove to his enemies that the deadliest weapon of all is a little song and dance.

About the Director

Travis is a queer artist specializing in game design, theatre, visual storytelling and dramaturgy. He previously served as the dramaturg for the spring 2024 Theatre Arts production of “Urinetown the Musical,” as well as the production stage manager for the spring 2024 staged reading of William Shakespeare’s “Measure for Measure.”
