Free Income Tax Assistance available through School of Business for 2025

The SUNY New Paltz School of Business announces the return of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, which provides free tax help to individuals with a gross income of generally $67,000 or less.

The VITA program connects community members with certified student volunteers who have received IRS training to provide basic tax return preparation assistance and free e-filing.

Beginning Feb. 3 and until April 15, taxpayers may have their returns prepared either in person or virtually. In-person services will be provided in Van den Berg Hall Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00  p.m. (no appointment necessary). Evening hours are available on Mondays from 6– 8 p.m. Services will be closed March 17-21 for Spring Break.

Taxpayers may also visit www.getyourrefund.org/sunynewpaltz to securely complete and submit documents virtually, beginning Feb. 3. Student volunteers will then contact taxpayers

If you are interested in taking advantage of this free service, please be sure to have your photo ID, Social Security Cards, all informational statements such as W-2s & 1099s, last year’s tax return (if available) and your bank routing and account numbers for direct deposit.

If you have questions, please contact the VITA program during the hours above at 845-257-2642.
