Photography Program course launches exhibition at Unison Arts Center Dec. 12

SUNY New Paltz’s Photography Program is excited to announce the opening of “I am Me and You,” a contemporary photography exhibition featuring the work of students enrolled in the Contemporary Ideas in Photography course.

The opening reception will be held at the Unison Arts Center in the Village of New Paltz on Thursday Dec. 12 from 5 – 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

All aspects of the exhibition were conceived and realized by the students. Identity, the exhibition’s overarching theme, is negotiated by each student in a deeply personal way. Approaches include the interrogation of culture, heritage, gender, race, trauma, inner dimensions and societal norms.

“I am fascinated by how identity—often seen as solid and unchanging—can dissolve and reshape under pressure, whether from society, relationships or internal conflict,” said Logan Johnson ’25 (Photography), whose piece is titled “Disillusioned,” in her artist statement. “I seek to capture moments when self-perception wavers, blurs and breaks apart, revealing new, often unsettling, layers beneath.”

Visitors will encounter diverse photographic visual languages and installation formats, as well as collaborative collage work. Guests are encouraged to meet the artists one-on-one and discuss the works on display. A publication of the exhibited works will also be on view for guests to peer through during the exhibition.
