Campus Emergency Management team completes FEMA leadership academy
Personnel from SUNY New Paltz’s Office of Emergency Management have completed the National Emergency Management Advanced Academy, an application-based critical skills training provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Associate Director of the Office of Emergency Management Matthew Alfutis and Life Safety Systems specialist Tyler Carlson completed the 20-day program, which is being offered in New York State for the first time this year.
The National Emergency Management Advanced Academy reinforces the qualities needed to lead emergency management programs, covering key skills in leadership, program management and strategic thinking. It consists of four five-day courses and culminates in a comprehensive paper exam prior to graduation.
Following completion of the course, the Academy graduates attended a graduation ceremony on Sept. 17, where they received their certificates from New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services Commissioner Jackie Bray.
