Hawks Lose To Drew

NORTH ADAMS, MASS. — Drew University capitalized on several New Paltz freshman mistakes to prevail 2-0 and keep the Hawks winless in men’s soccer at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts/United Way Tournament on Sunday afternoon.

New Paltz (0-4-0), which has 18 new players since last season, starts six freshmen.

Derek Christianson scored from an assist by John Kulp at 30:35, and Justin Bonura scored an unassisted goal two minutes later. Kulp later added a goal on a pass by Ian Brennan in the 86th minute.

Kevin Smith made five saves in the loss for the Hawks, who were outshot 14-12 in the contest.

“Personally I’m not discouraged,” New Paltz Head Coach Stuart Robinson said. “The guys are playing hard. We just need to score a goal to get it flowing. We’re going to be all right.”

New Paltz makes its home debut at 3 p.m. Wednesday against The College of New Jersey.
