College at New Paltz Foundation Appoints New Members
NEW PALTZ — The College at New Paltz Foundation, Inc. has appointed two new members to its board of trustees: Donald J. Stewart of East Patchogue, NY, and John F. Vorisek of Pound Ridge, NY.
“We are pleased and honored that these folks have agreed to serve on the College at New Paltz Foundation Board,” said Kenneth F. Burda, vice president of Institutional Advancement at SUNY New Paltz. AThe funding that the Foundation provides is vital to this campus — it greatly enriches the quality of educational, cultural, and service programs for our students. Mr. Stewart and Mr. Vorisek both understand the importance of private funding.”
The Foundation, created in 1976, is charged with the responsibility of attracting and administrating private support to fund programs and individual projects, not provided by the state budget, at the State University of New York at New Paltz.
Stewart is president and chief executive officer of the New York City-based National Executive Service Corps (NESC), a nonprofit management consulting firm dedicated to strengthening the management of nonprofit organizations, schools and government agencies. In 1993, he co-founded Union Commercial Funding LLC, a commercial real estate finance company based in New York City. He is chairman emeritus of the Board of Trustees of WLIW Channel 21, a member of the Board of Governors Awards Committee of the National Retiree Volunteer Coalition, a member of the Education Committee of the National Arts Club, and past president of the Board of Directors of Circle Repertory. He also serves as chairperson of the Parents Council at New Paltz where his son, Ian, is a sophomore majoring in theatre arts.
Vorisek, a longtime advocate for New Paltz, served on the SUNY New Paltz College Council from 1969 through 1997. In 1997, he was recognized by the Council for his “courage, loyalty, integrity and commitment to ensuring the College’s growth and development as an educational institution of the highest quality.”
Vorisek is owner of Sound Enterprises in New York City, where he began his career more than 50 years ago with the Reeves Sound Studios, a disc and film sound recording company. Known as an authority in the recording industry, he has provided technical support for numerous films and hundreds of media events. Trans/Audio, Inc., a sound facility for filmmakers formed by Vorisek in 1973, was responsible for the sound production of many notable movies including “Serpico,” “Kramer vs Kramer,” and “The Untouchables.”
