The Ottaway Journalism Program presents: Bestselling author Deborah Copaken, Nov. 2

The James H. Ottaway Sr. Visiting Professor of Journalism program invites all members of the SUNY New Paltz community to an evening with photographer and New York Times bestselling author Deborah Copaken on Tuesday, Nov. 2.

Copaken will give a talk titled “My So-Called Post-Feminist Life in Arts and Letters: Part II,” at 5 p.m. in Science Hall room 181.

She will meet with attendees and sign books in the lobby area outside the auditorium after her address.

Copaken is the New York Times bestselling author of several books, including Shutterbabe, a memoir of her time as a war correspondent and photojournalist in her early twenties, and the novels The Red Book and Between Here and April, among others. Her seventh book, Ladyparts, was published by Random House in August 2021.

About the James H. Ottaway Sr. Visiting Professorship

The James H. Ottaway Sr. Visiting Professorship, SUNY New Paltz’s only endowed professorship, was established in 2000 through the generosity of James H. Ottaway Jr. ’18 HON and Mary Ottaway ’70g (Elementary Education). It is named in honor of James Sr., the founder of Ottaway Newspapers, Inc., and a lifelong supporter of quality journalism in the Hudson Valley and across the globe.

The program has brought 20 exceptional journalists to work with New Paltz undergraduate students, including Pulitzer Prize winners, foreign correspondents, book authors, editors, investigative reporters and experts in finance, science and consumer journalism.
