Getting ready for Orientation? Here’s your COVID-19 to-do list before coming to campus!

SUNY New Paltz is excited to welcome the newest generation of Hawks to campus for summer Orientation 2021!

Like many college and university campuses across the country, we’re hosting an in-person Orientation for first-year students this summer with some new policies and regulations in place related to COVID-19.

We wanted to put together a quick to-do list for our new students and their families, so you can focus on having fun, meeting new people and getting ready for the fall semester during your Orientation session.

Either show proof of vaccination, or negative results from a recent test

We want to make sure that everyone at Orientation – new students, OLs, staff, faculty and family members – can enjoy the event safely.

All students attending in-person Orientation MUST either show proof that they are fully vaccinated*, or submit negative test results from a PCR (not rapid) COVID-19 test**.

You can do this quickly and easily by logging into my.newpaltz.edu and clicking “View your COVID-19 Profile,” where you’ll find options for uploading vaccination info and test results.

Students who do not send us proof of vaccination or a negative test result will not be permitted to participate in in-person Orientation activities.

* Please note: “Fully vaccinated” is defined as two weeks after your final vaccine dose.

** Please note: Your PCR test must be taken within five days prior to your arrival to campus, and uploaded to the COVID-19 Profile at my.newpaltz.edu at least 24 hours before your arrival

Complete the COVID-19 Screening (it only takes a minute!)

Also on my.newpaltz.edu is our COVID-19 Screening, which all students, faculty and staff complete for every day they are on campus.

You’ll see the Screening automatically when you log in. It will ask you a few simple questions about your plans to be on campus, and whether you’re experiencing any symptoms or had any exposure to COVID-19-positive individuals.

Our in-person Orientation participants should plan to complete the Screening in the morning on their first day on campus, prior to checking in. Thank you!

Don’t forget your mask!

While the State of New York has begun loosening masking requirements in public spaces, they currently require masks for individuals at state agencies, which includes SUNY campuses.

All 2021 Orientation participants will be required to wear masks while on campus.

New students can get vaccinated on campus!

The Student Health Service is providing free, one-dose Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccinations to any registered student.

If you’re registered for classes in the fall, are over the age of 18, and haven’t been vaccinated yet, you can sign up here to make an appointment to get vaccinated during Orientation.

Our policies apply to family members, too!

Parents, guardians and other family members are invited to the Orientation Welcome event on Day 1, and will also be permitted to enter residence halls to help students with drop-off and pick-up.

However, any family members who wish to participate in these aspects of Orientation should be prepared to show proof of vaccination or documentation of a negative COVID-19 test result.

We’ll accept the Excelsior Pass or other official proof of vaccination, like your COVID-19 card.
