Men’s Basketball Drops Tough 87-85 Decision to SUNYIT

UTICA, NY — The men’s basketball team travelled to SUNYIT to take on the Wildcats and dropped a tough 87-85 decision. The Hawks were down 40-36 at the half following a 10-2 run by the Wildcats. SUNYIT took a 71-61 lead at 7:36 of the second on a three pointer by Chris Reaves. New Paltz battled back to within one at 81-80 with 1:44 remaining. Amseshem Foluke-Henderson and Phil Oliver tallied back to back lay-ups for the Hawks to take their only lead of the second half at 84-81 at 1:04. It wasn’t enough as Reaves would proceed to knock down five points in 38 seconds.
Foluke-Henderson led the Hawks with 26 points and six boards. Oliver added 22 points and five rebounds while Tony Cannon combined 15 points, seven boards, four assists and five steals. Jimmy Sugure went four of six from the floor for nine points and senior Matt Irwin chipped in with seven points, seven caroms and six assists.
The Hawks drop to 3-3 overall and 1-2 in SUNYAC play and will travel to John Jay on Sat. Dec 9th for a 2:00 p.m. contest.
